The Commission was founded during the first International Symposium "Origin and early development of food producing cultures in northeastern Africa" organized in Poland in Dymaczewo near Poznań in 1980.
The aim of the Commission is to congregate the scientists engaged in the prehistoric research in northeastern Africa, to enable quick communication, access to information as well as the exchange of ideas and discussion.
The Commission is composed of scientists representing different countries of Europe, Africa and Northern America. Every four years the international conference is being organized (seven until now) under the auspices of the Commission, at the beginning in Dymaczewo, than in other places including Poznań. But traditionally these meetings are known as "Dymaczewo Conferences". Thre were also smaller symposia organized in Cologne. Results of all these meetings are published in separate volumes in English or French.
